We have mapped this project to the Alberta Program of Studies outcomes for middle years, particularly for grades 8 and 9, in order to show its application to the existing curricular outcomes. Stories surround and change us, and we believe in the idea that, in turn, our stories can also change the world. Because so many stories surround us and we can use stories to change the world, the project can also go beyond the grades we have mapped in this project. By altering the content within the learning tasks, we believe this project could work at more grade levels than those represented here.
We understand that this is a big project. A school may not have time to explore the entire six-week project. In taking this into consideration, we have created modular components that could be explored individually if the essential questions fit with the learning outcomes of the classroom.
While in this project we build towards a final capstone, perhaps one set of learning tasks can fit a unit you are teaching. For example – A Science teacher who is exploring climate change and an English teacher exploring language usage decide to team teach to end their units:
